During the S03E13 episode, the trio discusses trading, mining, and the price of BTC (which was $3 in 2012!). It surely brings back memories of the good old days when BTC was affordable.
This is probably the most in-depth example we’ve found among mainstream TV shows.
In S01E03 episode – “Articles of Incorporation” – Richard Hendricks discusses his business idea to launch a cryptocurrency. The gang is going to create a new digital coin and market it by printing out T-shirts with logos. However, the idea quickly spirals out of control when the team discovers a Midwest farmer already holds the rights to that name.
There’s never been a more popular geek-friendly show than The Big Bang Theory. In S11E09 – “The Bitcoin Entanglement” – the friends remember how they mined a bunch of BTC in 2010. Of course, back in those days that was worth nothing. But at the time of the episode’s release, each of those bitcoins was worth $5000, and the boys could potentially have a fortune on their hands. If only they could remember where they had put their BTC.
Of course, cryptocurrencies were also mentioned in The Simpsons. In S25E07 episode, Krusty admitted that he went bankrupt with a pony and was even less fortunate on the Bitcoin market.
In The Blacklist S01E11 screenwriters didn’t innovate the cryptocurrency, but they showed how Ripple works.
