So you see, using a personal computer to help maintain the Bitcoin network can be both boom and bust. But it sure is as fun today as it was back in 2010 when Bitcoin was worth less than a penny. Laszlo Hanyecz couldn’t do much with his mining rewards back then, so he had a cool idea to spend open-source internet money for a real-world good. Using an online chat forum, Hanyecz asked if anyone would be willing to buy him pizza in exchange for 10,000 Bitcoin. He found a taker – and got two pizzas out of the deal.
Even with the ongoing slump, based on the current value of Bitcoin, Hanyecz would have paid almost half of a billion for those pizzas. That Bitcoin-for-pizza exchange is believed to be the first real-world transaction involving cryptocurrency. Since then, Hanyecz has become something of an internet celebrity. Each May 22, crypto enthusiasts worldwide celebrate “Bitcoin Pizza Day” in honour of his transaction – the first attempt to “harness greed with Bitcoin”, as the man himself puts it.

To participate in the Giveaway, you must have a BTC wallet on TRASTRA, which we use to deposit €9 in BTC. You must use the funds to order a TRASTRA card. If you are declared a winner of the Giveaway, TRASTRA will fund your BTC wallet with €70 worth of BTC within three business days after the announcement
We will publish a video of the final draw on our social media channels
If the winner turns out to be from outside of the EEA, TRASTRA will hold another draw from the pool of existing participants
Existing TRASTRA cardholders are welcome to participate in the Giveaway. In case of winning they are eligible to win 70EUR in BTC only, not the second TRASTRA card.
